Equipment, resources and consumables

We try to keep costs as low as possible but there are some things you will need to buy to help your child in their instrumental music education.

Instrument specific costs:

String instruments (i.e. violin, viola, cello)

Tutor book - Tricks to Tunes Book 1 - approx $20 - $25

Consumables - Rosin - $6 - $15

Brass & Woodwind (i.e. flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone)

Tutor book - Standard of Excellence Book 1 - approx $30

Percussion/Drums

Tutor book - Standard of Excellence Book 1 - approx $30

Drum sticks size 5A - approx $33

Drumming Practice Pad - approx $27

Cleaning and Consumables:

Flute: 1 x flute cleaning rod (approx $7) and 1 x small hankerchief (small chux would also work)

Clarinet: 1 x cork grease (approx $4), 1 x pull through (approx $12) and 3 x size 2 reeds (approx $5/ea)

Saxophone: 1 x cork grease (approx $4), 1 x pull through (approx $16) and 3 x size 2 reeds (approx $6/ea)

Trumpet: 1 x valve oil (approx $7-$15) and slide cream/oil/grease (approx $7-$10)

Trombone: 1 x spray bottle (approx $4) and 1 x cream/oil/grease (approx $7-$10)


All instrument specific items can be purchased from our local music shop, Bout Time Music located on Targo Street opposite McDonalds.


All students should have a soft polishing cloth to wipe over instruments and a black display folder for band/ensemble/sheet music (example below).
