Sustainable Lifestyle In Digital Environments (SLIDE) 2021-2023
Sustainable Lifestyle In Digital Environments (SLIDE) was an interdisciplinary Erasmus+ project bringing together upper secondary school students and teachers from Finland, the Czech Republic, Iceland, Italy, and Romania. Its goal was to give young Europeans hands-on experience in international collaboration while exploring the challenges and opportunities of living sustainably in today’s digital world.
The project encouraged participants to think critically about their roles as digital citizens and consumers, combining perspectives from multiple school subjects with real-world research and teamwork. Over the course of the project, 100–150 students and 25–50 teachers worked together in international teams using English as their working language.
SLIDE consisted of four themed subprojects. The administrative coordination was carried out in Finland, while all the student activities took place in the host countries (in brackets):
1. Energy – exploring energy production, consumption, and recycling for digital devices. (Czech Republic)
2. Sustainability of Digital Shopping – investigating the environmental and social impact of online consumption. (Romania)
3. Digital Travelling – examining search engines, virtual travel, and ethical dimensions of digital exploration. (Iceland)
4. Sustainable Citizenship in the Digital World – discussing online ethics, safety, and active participation in digital society. (Italy)
Each subproject began with an online kick-off meeting, often featuring an academic expert, and concluded with a face-to-face workshop hosted by one of the partner schools. Students worked in mixed-country teams, taking on roles such as chairs, secretaries, and media representatives to foster leadership, organization, and creativity. The collaboration resulted in presentations, reports, and digital materials that supported both classroom learning and wider dissemination.
SLIDE not only strengthened students’ digital and scientific skills but also highlighted the shared European values of cooperation, responsibility, and sustainability—showing how young people can shape a more ethical and sustainable digital future together.
