New Milford Celebrates
America 250
Why are we here?
What are we celebrating?
We’re on the eve of our country’s 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.
The 250th anniversary is also called the Semiquincentennial (semi-quin-centennial).
As a nation, we’ll be celebrating the anniversary in 2026.
There will be celebrations and commemorations both small and large.
Our town played a part in the Revolutionary War!
Our burial grounds are the final resting places for many of our local revolutionary heroes.
The Continental Army had an encampment with over 4,000 troops on Second Hill Road/Mine Hill Road in 1778.
The New Milford Celebrates America 250 Committee’s mission is, while highlighting New Milford’s place in the founding of the country, to engage the community with inclusive activities and events that celebrate and commemorate America’s 250th birthday as part of the national celebration in 2026.
The community experiences of New Milford Celebrates America 250 will inspire a spirit of unity, service and celebration, strengthen our connection with neighbors, instill and enhance a sense of pride for the town and its people, including those of the past, present and future, and demonstrate the impact and relevance of New Milford’s place in the founding of America.
This is up to the community, local organizations and companies that make up the greater New Milford area.
Here are some thoughts of how we can celebrate…
