Our mission is to be the best place for our students to learn and grow. We want our students to learn the skills necessary so they may be successful wherever they choose to go. The teaching staff provides opportunities for growth through individualized teaching and behavior programs that emphasize the positive traits of each student while providing direction and feedback on areas that need to improve.
Any student from one of the cooperating districts maybe be referred to the Alternative High School. The Alternative High School accepts students 14 to 21 years of age who have completed at least one semester of high school and exhibit one or more of the following criteria:
Dropped out of high school - no longer attending the traditional school
Exhibiting signs of truancy - absent without valid cause
Academically behind age-appropriate grade level
Social or discipline problems at school leading to academic failure
Mental/Social problems leading to academic failure
Others
As space becomes available, referred students are interviewed by staff to ensure a successful enrollment is possible. Parent/Guardian, home school staff and other involved agencies are required to at this intake interview. Accepted students are those who show a genuine desire to continue their education. These students will take responsibility for past mistakes and look positively for future success. They will be prepared to commit themselves to receiving an education. Enrollment is limited so a waiting list is maintained.
Enrollment is not guaranteed and an invitation to enroll may be revoked based on student behavior, lack of attendance or as deemed by the Principal.
The purpose of the Alternative High School is to provide a setting in which students may achieve academic success when he/she becomes unable to perform in a traditional school setting. It is our goal to provide an environment that allows a student to maximize his/her academic potential so that a student may:
Master academic skills
Re-enter regular high school
Graduate from high school
Obtain a GED
Acquire employability skills
Start a career path
Become successfully involved in the community
Understand and become a good citizen for the community
