At RVHS, we understand that teaching is a profession where development is constant; you never stop learning! To help this process, we use a professional coaching programme, where all staff take part .
At RVHS, we use the paired coaching model. The pair consists is made up of two teachers who take on both roles- the coach & the coachee, (first cycle from the same subject with the intention to move towards cross-curricular coaching) that 'observe' each other based on a focus chosen by the coachee.
It is important that the coachee decides on the area of focus they would like to gain support & feedback on from their coaching pair.
Each teacher will have a chance to assume the main role of the coachee. The coachee will determine their own focus and decide on what they wish to receive support and guidance on in regards to their own teaching practise. The coach will then 'observe' the coachee. What follows will be a 'coaching conversation', whereby the coach will ask open questions about the lesson observed to encourage the coachee to identify their own strengths and weaknesses.
The coachee then completes a 'self-reflection' summary via Bluesky based on the feedback that they received. It is important that the coaching conversation allows for a successful reflection
The desired outcome is that the coachee receives feedback that is based on their area of focus to allow them to move their teaching practise forward in a constructive & helpful way. It also gives freedom to teachers to decided the direction of their own progress and enables us to work with each other in an informal way. Coaching will hopefully enhance the overall T&L at RVHS.
