Meet the Counselor
Hello RPA, My name is Jacqueline Hartman and I am your school counselor. This is my 7th year at Rockwood Preparatory Academy, and I love being a part of the Raccoon Team! I have a BA in Political Science from California State University, Long Beach, and am finishing up my program at Grand Canyon University to earn an MA in School Counseling.Â
As the RPA School Counselor, I am committed to providing support services for all students to enhance their academic, social/emotional and college career growth. The goal of my counseling program is to ensure all students develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will lead to behaviors that support academic achievement and social-emotional well-being.

Sources of Strength is a highly effective, strength-based suicide prevention program recognized for its preventive and intervention outcomes. It is widely implemented and rigorously evaluated through large randomized control trials in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and many Indigenous communities. It uses Peer Leaders to enhance protective factors and improve school norms regarding suicide. At RPA, this curriculum is delivered to all students through classroom guidance lessons conducted by the classroom teacher with coaching from Mrs. Hartman.
Classroom Guidance Lessons
RPA utilizes The Responsive Counselor's "Social Emotional Learning Curriculum," which is aligned with ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors and CASEL Competencies. These research-based lessons incorporate proven strategies for developing children's social-emotional skills. It include explicit skill objectives, cooperative learning/or peer interaction, active learning, opportunities for reflection, focus on the student's voice, and competence building. The curriculum is organized and implemented age-appropriately for each grade level, ensuring that lessons are fun, informative, and interactive.
