Rockwall ISD
International Baccalaureate
AdmissionsPolicy
PURPOSE: Rockwall ISDs Admissions Policy articulates the ways in which we determine student interest and commitment to the rigors of the International Baccalaureate curriculum.
PHILOSOPHY: The International Baccalaureate Programme provides highly motivated college-bound students an opportunity to pursue a dynamic, interdisciplinary curriculum that is recognized by the most selective colleges and universities worldwide. Admission into the IB Diploma Programme in Rockwall ISD is based upon above-average performance in ninth and tenth grade courses, teacher recommendations, academic integrity, and personal motivation.
ENROLLMENT PROCEDURE: Rockwall ISD has an open enrollment policy for all of our academic courses. We encourage prospective students to meet with their guidance counselor and/or the IB Coordinator to gauge interest and level of commitment prior to and during the course selection process.
IB Diploma Programme candidates will meet individually with the IB Coordinator or the IB Counselor to prepare a 2-Year Plan, and understand the requirements of the Core, as well.
Students submit course request forms to their guidance counselor, or the IB Counselor for enrollment in the IB Diploma Programme, or for enrollment in IB Courses.
Those course requests are then reviewed by the IB Coordinator and IB Counselor to determine whether the student has fulfilled the pre-requisite classes that will have provided a foundation for enrollment in IB coursework.
DROP PROCEDURE:
A student who chooses to drop an IB course will first meet with the IB Coordinator to initiate the request.
The IB Coordinator will meet with student, his/her parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators, as necessary to determine the most appropriate course of action, and consider the timing with regard to the overall academic pacing.
A student will not be allowed to transfer into an AP course from an IB course.
IB Course changes may be made only at the end of the first nine weeks of the fall semester, during the first week of the spring semester, or at the end of Year 1 of the Diploma Programme/2-Year Courses with the proper approvals. Approval of schedule changes will be limited to requests deemed to be within district guidelines and in the best interest of the student. Upon administrator approval, students may be allowed to drop into a regular class in accordance with the RISD Academic Planning Guide.
IB drop requests will not be honored if doing so will jeopardize a student’s graduation status.
If a student drops an IB Course or the IB Diploma Programme after November 1, no refunds will be given for payments made for exam fees or programme fees.
UPDATE AND REVISION:
This policy will be reviewed and updated annually by members of the school community including students, teachers, administration, and parents to ensure that the policy is in alignment with both IBO’s and RISD’s expectations and academic planning guidelines.
Respect of self and others is of paramount importance, and compliance with all aspects of the IB Learner Profile is compulsory for participation in the IB Program in Rockwall ISD.
