The first thing you will need to do when you have selected this project is read the LATHE SAFETY POWERPOINT and answer the questions at the end. After you watch the power-point and answer the questions (you’ll need this when you get your grade) you should be ready to take the LATHE SAFETY TEST.
Print a copy of the PEN CHECKLIST. Ask the teacher for a copy of the PEN PROCEDURE. Before starting to make this project, take a look at the PEN RUBRIC so you will know what you will be graded on. When you are finished making the pen, you can come back to this page, print the rubric, and grade yourself.
The lathe is a power tool that is used for making rounded objects.
There are several video snippets you will need to watch at the appropriate time as you complete different steps on your pen. You will need to find a computer and make sure the sound is working. Headphones plug into the side of most computers! Some headphones have a volume control built into the cord. If the sound doesn’t work, click the speaker icon at the bottom of your screen and make sure it isn’t on “MUTE”, or the volume isn’t all the way down to quiet.

To engrave a name or word on your pen read the PEN ENGRAVING INSTRUCTIONS. This is not “REQUIRED” but is 10 points of the grade.
