A great way to think about speaking is taking some pauses in your speech - This doesn't involve taking huge breaths every 2 to 3 words rather just waiting a minute then speak again. Sure, it might feel weird or different at first, but you might just realize it will be easier with practice.
A great way to practice is retelling a story using your strategy. Do you want to hear an amazing story? Your parents can help you tune in to a person reading a book each day. Then retell the story in your own words using your strategy.
So Mrs. Sullivan, just slowing down my speech and taking some pauses really doesn't help that much. What else can I try? Well, you can try to make the first word in your sentence longer s t r e t c h out the word. How can I do that? Well, you have to practice some sentences s t r e t c h i n g out the first word of your sentence. How often should I practice? Well, try at least 10 sentences every day. Once you get in a habit of doing it, you might find you only need to use this strategy on the word you get "stuck". For my younger students, this doesn't happen automatically until they are a bit older. Don't feel frustrated, keep trying!
Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming!
