I am at the milestone of 50 years old. I have been with my husband for 33 years and we have five children together. My children range in age from 25 to 32. I have one dog named Lucky. I have five wonderful grandchildren! (See pictures below.)
I graduated early from Greensboro College’s teacher education program at the top of my class in 2007 and I earned my Masters in Education from Dominican University. This will be my fifteenth year teaching. I have taught second, fourth, and fifth grades. Previously, I have been active on the SIT, and Connect teams. I have served as my grade level chair and the Digital Coach here at SES. I have also served as the school Yearbook Adviser. At previous schools I have served as the Digital Learning Coach, Web Adviser, Power Champion, and Yearbook Adviser. I was honored to be elected Teacher of the Year for the 2017-2018 school year.
I truly enjoy teaching and I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year. I have many exciting things planned for your child including engaging projects and field trips! It is going to be a great year!
I realize that your child comes to school with unique experiences, interests and learning styles. My goal is to provide a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for your child so that he or she will feel accepted and unafraid to take risks while learning. I will get to truly know your child well and use this knowledge to guide, support and motivate him or her. I especially value parent involvement at every level and encourage you to partner with me to give your child the most powerful and joyous learning experience possible.
As you step into my classroom, you will notice that I encourage all students to become independent workers and thinkers. We will do a lot of group work and centers. I strive to create classroom experiences that will be relevant and interesting to my students. Students will transition to independent work through routines and practice. They will also be accountable for their learning through basic rubrics and journaling.
My classroom is set up a little different from the traditional classroom. I like to provide alternative seating for my students. I feel that they learn better when they are comfortable and engaged. To provide that opportunity, I have several options for student seating. My classroom is designed and set up with student choice in mind in order to allow students to learn in their most comfortable environment.
Please feel free to volunteer your time or drop by the classroom. I encourage all of you to drop by at least once to see how things are going.
