Tiny World Tiny Culture Grant Proposal

Major: Early Childhood Studies

Hometown: Redford, MI

ABSTRACT

It has been noted by teachers of Divine Enrichment Childcare Program that 35% of the children entering the preschool program are from Hispanic culture. This level of diversity has caused a shift in the educational needs of the children. This shift includes a need to add more diversity in technology, teaching materials, and resources that will meet the needs of all families. Acknowledging this growth within early childhood and preschool education in recent years has prompted the need to expand the classroom environment to be more culturally represented. Grant funds will provide the expansion of the multicultural and diversity center and more parent resources to build a network within their child's school. In addition, teachers will be able to use the resource materials to aid them in communication with bilingual students. By adding additional learning materials, children will have the opportunity to explore, learn, and play in an environment that supports diversity. This area will strengthen the teacher’s relationships with the children and their families, while keeping everyone connected. Having these multicultural areas throughout each classroom within the program will continue to promote a nurturing area that will enhance the development of all children and support them emotionally, physically and socially. Providing a rich experience of culture and diversity at an early age will continue to enhance an inclusive environment for the children to belong to.
