For new clients the best way to reach me is by email at: intake@robertsonpsych.com. While you can create a profile on my booking site it does not notify me of new profiles, you must reach out to me directly. I offer a free 15 minute consultation call.
I will ask you generally about:
the reason for counselling
availability
insurance coverage/billing
Once we have ensured that what you want support with is within my competence, there are times that work with both of our schedules, and we know how billing will work we can book a session.
When we book I will create a profile for you on my online booking site. You will receive an email to finish setting up your account. I will also send you an intake form that asks for some general information and goes over all consent information, it is important you read and make note of any questions.
One clinical hour equals 50 minutes of session time and 10 minutes of documentation time.
Cancellation policy: I ask for 24 hours notice or I charge half the agreed session rate. This fee is not covered by insurance.
If arriving more than 15 minutes late for your scheduled appointment, you will be required to re-schedule, and will be charged the late cancellation fee.
Please silence and put away your cellular device while in session.
For online appointments please make sure you have a stable internet connection, with enough privacy.
You are welcome to take notes during session.
The first session is where I go over consent information, we get to know one another and ensure it is a good fit. I will gather your general history, and more specific history of the issues we want to work on.
Often in the first two sessions I will ask about family history, upbringing, and if there is anything in particular you think I should know about you and your history.
I will also listen for how you cope with difficult feelings and often offer tools for you to try. Before deeper work happens I need to ensure you have tools to manage and this can take trial error to find what works.
It is important we both feel it is a good match. If you do not feel connected or that you can trust me you won't get as much benefit. If this is the case please let me know and I would be happy to help you find a therapist that might be a better fit.
Client confidentiality is very important and generally everything stays between the therapist and client. The exceptions are times I am legally required to break confidentiality:
1) If the psychologist has reason to believe that the client is an imminent danger to him/herself or someone else
2) If the psychologist has reason to believe that there is any actual or suspected acts of abuse to a child, elder, or person with disabilities.
3) If the client is under the age of 18 or has been appointed a legal guardian(s), the psychologist may be required to share limited client information with the parent(s) or legal guardian(s).
5) If the psychologist is required to release information through a court order by a judge
6) If a workplace injury has occurred (includes psychological injury), psychologists are required to give the client name and phone number to the Workers Compensation Board and the client chooses to proceed with a claim or not if the case is eligible.
