About Teela

I grew up in a Metís household with my dad in Woodland Cree Territory Saskatchewan. It is a predominantly Indigenous community which exposed me to family dynamics and social struggles commonly found among Indigenous communities in the prairie provinces. In my teen years I moved to Edmonton to live with my mom and siblings where in young adulthood I was fortunate to have met my spouse. A combination of personal and family experiences along with having a dad whose a psychologist, contributed to my interest in pursuing this profession. I was fortunate to witness and learn from my dad who contributed to several Northern Saskatchewan communities through community development.

I completed my Bachelor of Art's in Psychology at Grant MacEwan University. I got my start in the helping profession working in group homes for high risk youth, which was both challenging and rewarding. Upon receiving my masters in Counselling from Athabasca University (2018) I worked in a community agency providing counselling, before I slowly transitioned into a private practice setting. I started my own private practice in the fall of 2022.

Now I work on balancing career, hobbies, passion projects, and family. I have many interests and enjoy trying new creative skills and making things from scratch. Currently I'm into growing food, macrame, hiking, pole fitness, and sewing.
