Just For Fun.
From Mr. Vander Meulen: "... a cool map of the universe where each pixel is a galaxy or quasar from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. (The SDSS site on its own is a very cool place to play around. All their data are freely available and queryable and they have tons of cool activities, most of which are only relevant to Modern or Astronomy but which you still might find fun.) I think the galaxies look like neurons in a brain!!
If students want a better idea of the “edge of the universe” concepts, PBS Space Time has one video and then its sequel that are pretty good explanations.
Requirements for the course:
Textbook - the same one you used in Physics 1 - Pearson's College Physics 4th Edition by James S. Walker. We will also use the online textbook: College Physics for AP Courses.
Sign into the AP College board website is you are registered to take the AP course or to take the test.
Use this site and the Google Classroom for this class xa7
The Mastering Physics access code that you used last year - We will use it again this year. It is good for two years. The text used for the Mastering is Different - and an AP specific text. It is College Physics: Explore and Apply, 2e, by Etkina, Planinsic and Van Heuvelen.
A laptop that can hold a charge for an hour or longer, and a charging cord.
A notebook which will include class notes and notes from lab experiments. Sometimes you will hand in your lab reports after writing them by hand. Sometimes you will write them by computer. In each case, you will be taking notes and collecting data in your lab notebook. YOUR NOTEBOOK WILL BE CHECKED A FEW TIMES EACH QUARTER AND WILL FORM A PORTION OF YOUR P2 GRADE.
A binder that will be organized with all of your completed and returned work, tests, etc.
Pens, pencils and graph paper.
