This portfolio was created to show my improvement in English writing throughout the first unit. With the reader responses I have chosen I will show my developments in making connections, using my voice, thinking critically, supporting my ideas with evidence, and developing my vocabulary. In the beginning, I didn't know how to think critically about the books or the videos that I've read or watched but throughout the first quarter I learned how to find connections and think critically while reading. As I reviewed the reader responses I saw my improvement throughout the first quarter better.
Among all the skills, the most crucial skill in my personal opinion was to develop, a better way of saying it, to create my unique writer voice because I have used the other skills at least once before. But I can't remember myself trying to create a unique voice in my writings. I wanted to focus on the skill that I thought I will struggle with the most. Although I mostly focused on creating my voice, I didn't ignore the others and also focused on improving other skills. While I was trying to achieve these goals I used the advice that my teachers gave me. In addition, I used some online platforms such as Quizlet, Membean to improve my vocabulary and other online reading platforms such as Epic and Sora to read new books and get inspiration from the other writers' voices. Also, I can't ignore the fact that reading more English books both online and other, helped me learn various things about writing. Also using all the four reader response writing skills together was a whole new experience. In my opinion, learning English by writing is more effective than just learning grammar. In addition, writing a portfolio to observe my development, is also an efficient way to encourage myself to write more in English with the improvements that I observed. Also, the portfolio shows me which skills that I have improved less so I will have the opportunity to find them and work on them more. In conclusion, what you will see in this portfolio will show how my writing skills have developed throughout the first unit.
