The 8th-grade Chemistry unit introduces students to the foundations of matter and how scientists explain the behavior of substances. Students explore atomic structure (protons, neutrons, electrons), read atomic number and mass, and build Bohr-style models to understand isotopes. They use the periodic table to identify elements and predict properties, then apply this knowledge to chemical bonding and simple molecules. Hands-on labs, molecular modeling, and demonstrations (such as water electrolysis) reinforce concepts. Throughout the unit, students practice scientific thinking through CER writing, connecting evidence from labs and models to clear, supported explanations.

Students are invited to attend a Chemistry review session on Wednesday, 2/25 from 3:30 - 4:30 in Mr. Kagarise's classroom. RSVP is not needed. Please be sure to have transportation arrnaged for your student at 4:30 if they attend the session.
