Surrender

We understand that life happens, and you may find yourself in a situation where you are unable to care for your parrot. You are then faced with the tough decision to surrender. Please know that your experiences and decisions to surrender will be kept confidential and will be met without judgment. We know that surrendering takes courage, humility, and selflessness.

Our Process

When birds arrive at RMAR, we immediately place them in quarantine. Throughout this time, we conduct disease testing and schedule vet appointments for a comprehensive health check. We carefully assess their personalities, temperaments, and ensure they are on a nutritious diet. Visits to birds in quarantine are not permitted. After the completion of the quarantine period, we then move them to the bird room with other caged birds. Each bird has out of cage time to play on the playgrounds daily. Prospective adopters complete an application form, detailing their living situation, bird experience, and pet ownership expectations. Following this, they undergo a comprehensive screening, which includes a home visit to evaluate the environment's suitability for the bird. Upon approval, adopters have the opportunity to meet available birds, seeking the ideal match for their lifestyle and preferences. As this process prioritizes the well being of both bird and adopter, it does not result in same day adoption, ensuring a thoughtful and successful transition.
