Welcome to English!
Students will engage with many forms of literature, including short stories, fiction and non-fiction novels, film, and poetry. Students will learn how authors use elements of writing to create captivating, engaging, and intelligent works of literature. In this class, we will discuss not only the author's purpose and themes within the literature, but will go beyond the pages to explore how these ideas are relevant in our current world. Writing will be a critical aspect of this class, and we will continue to hone our skills as writers. Vocabulary, spelling, and grammar will also be taught throughout the year, as they are crucial to the expansion of our understanding of the English language.
“In books I have traveled, not only to other worlds, but into my own.” ― Anna Quindlen
About me
I am a bibliophile and have been jumping through literary worlds since I discovered The Three Musketeers at the age of 11. Growing up in a small town in Upstate New York, books were my way to take adventures, which sparked a curiosity in me about the wider world that has never waivered!
I firmly believe writing is a key skill that, when done well, can open many doors in life. Everyone has the ability to learn how to write well, but like any skill, it takes practice!
In my class, we will explore many literary worlds together and students will learn how to convey their thoughts and ideas through the written word. The skills they learn in my classroom will help students advocate for themselves where ever life's journey takes them!
“We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.”― Anais Nin
