The Coolidge Foundation Essay Contest-With a $10,000 first prize, this is one of the most generous student competitions in the country.
This essay contest has separate divisions for high schoolers and undergraduates.
Up to 10 finalists will be named in each division, and all will receive $1,000.
The essay contest focuses on economics, letting students weigh in on one of the most debated issues in America today: Protectionism.
Specifically, the protectionist Jones Act of 1920.
Has the Jones Act worked? The students will decide.
Finalists will receive:
A cash prize of $1,000
An expenses-paid trip to D.C. this fall for the finalists’ event
The opportunity to compete for the $10,000 Block Prize and the $5,000 second-place prize, and to have their essay published in the Coolidge Review, the Coolidge Foundation’s magazine

U.S. Senate Hearst Scholarship - The Unites States Senate Youth Program will award two $10,000 scholarships to Vermont juniors and/or seniors and provide a week-long trip to Washington, DC. Applicants must currently be a class officer at school. The Senate looks for students with strong leadership skills, academic achievement, and community involvement. Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship - This scholarship is for high-achieving seniors. Income is also a factor (will consider applicants with family income up to $95,000). Scholarship amounts vary up to $40,000 per year (renewable). Last year, 118 scholars were selected. Vermont JCI Senate Scholarship - This scholarship has 2 opportunities. First, applications are submitted to the state level where 3 recipients will receive $500 each. Second, those 3 winners will be submitted to the national level where up to 20 scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each will be awarded. This year the Vermont JCI will also grant one $500 scholarship based strictly on need. See Guidance for more information and an application or you can print an application at www.usjcisenate.org. Hamilton Scholarships -The Hamilton Award recognizes young people for their academic, personal, service and entrepreneurial accomplishments. Up to thirty-five under-served (first-generation, low income, extenuating circumstances, etc.) high school juniors from across the nation are selected annually as winners of the Hamilton Award and subsequently enrolled in the five-year Alexander Hamilton Scholars (AHS) Empowerment Program.

Vermont Lions Hart Memorial Award - The Vermont Lions Hart Memorial award is presented to a graduating high school senior that has a disability or debilitating illness, either physically or mentally, and is planning to attend college upon graduating high school. The recipent of the award will recieve a $1000 to further their education and will also be honored with a Vermont Lions Hart Memorial plaque. Martin W. Wennar M.D. Scholarship - This scholarship is available to Franklin County students. The amount of the scholarship may vary, but last year four scholarships of $2,000 each were awarded. New England Association for College Admission Counseling (NEACAC) is offering a $1,000 scholarship to one student from each New England state who attends a NEACAC member school (which Richford is). You must write a 500 word essay on the following prompt: Describe a counselor, teacher, or coach who has had the greatest influence on your decision to attend college. How has this individual impacted your future? What will you do in college or beyond that will make a difference in your community? Additional details on this scholarship can be found here. Two RHS students have recieved this scholsrship in the past. Definitely worth applying even though this is a New England scholarship.

American Legion Department of Vermont - is offering several scholarships to seniors who will be furthering their education. Scholarships available are the: Dept of Vermont Scholarship ($1500), Dept Commander Scholarship ($1000) and ten $500 scholarships. See Guidance for more information and an application. The Rotary Club of St. Albans Scholarship - This scholarship is intended to recognize individuals, who have demonstrated leasdership qualities, demonstrated academic success, and exhibited the characteristics of "Service Above Self." The committee will be looking for candidates that have performed community service giving back to the community beyond what is required to fulfill a club or school requirement. Billy Howrigan Scholarship Fund - This annual scholarship is awarded to Franklin County residents pursuing higher education. Preference will be given to those pursuing degrees in agriculture, forestry or a related field. Academics and leadership skills will also be considered. It is in the range of $500 or more. VT Sons of the American Legion (Dennis Comai) Scholarship -Any student who is planning to attend a trade or technical school and whose parents, grandparents or siblings are a member of the American Legion Family are welcome to apply for this scholarship. Two scholarships will be awarded in northern Vermont - 1 @ $1,000 and 1 @ $500. Applications are available in the Guidance Office.

Luc Gates Memorial Scholarship - Four scholarships are awarded; 2 for Enosburg students and the other 2 are open to other Franklin County students. Winona Smith Scholarship - Three scholarships, in the amount of $2,000 each were established to honor Winona Smith, a long-time leader of the League of Women Voters of Vermont, who devoted her energies to ensuring that Vermont students receive the best possible education. The awards are presented to a Vermont resident in his or her senior year of high school who has demonstrated an interest in civic participation and community service, who has a stated need for financial aid and who is highly recommended by a teacher or mentor. New England Service Scholarship
The Red Sox Foundation’s New England Service Scholarship initiative recognizes graduating high school seniors across New England who are making a meaningful impact through service in their local communities by awarding them a $1,000 college scholarship. In addition to the scholarship, recipients will participate in a service project in Boston before being honored on the field at Fenway Park before the Friday, June 27th game against the Toronto Blue Jays at 7:10pm. Christopher Potvin Scholar/Athlete Scholarship - A teenage boy, Chris Potvin, died in a car accident and his family has set up a scholarship fund in his name. If you are a good student (B average or better), a varsity athlete (not the star, but a member of the team), and a respected student/athlete, then you should apply. This scholarship is available to Richford and Enosburg seniors and seniors from their home town in Connecticut. Chris' mom graduated from RHS and his dad from EFHS. Usually at least twenty $1,000 scholarships were award. Applications are available in the Guidance Office or editable versions are available online at Here

Brandon Gleason Scholarship - Brandon Gleason was tragically killed April of 2013 by a drunk driver at the age of 17. The recipient of this scholarship must hold the same or similar characteristics of Brandon. This being: a leader on and off the sports courts/fields, a friend to all, loving, kind and generous, etc. There is one $500 Scholarship to help aid with futhering their education. Terry Bryant Scholarship - The Terry Bryant Accident and Injury Law firm scholarship is open to high school seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicants must submit a video, essay, or slideshow that addresses the dangers of drunk driving, underage driving, or distracted driving. Awards of up to $2,500 will be provided.
