"The best way to predict the future

is to create it."

~Abraham Lincoln

Welcome to our Social Studies class. My name is Ms. Allen, and I have been teaching for 19 years. I am celebrating my 10th year teaching at Riverton School. I am just as excited to start this new school year as I was on my first day of teaching. I am here to help you and your child succeed -so don't hesitate to reach out to me so that we can work together to make this educational journey positive and successful. I truly believe our students are our future, and I predict a bright future.

Social Studies

The middle school Social Studies program begins with the dawn of humankind and ends with the Civil War. That's a LOT of ground to cover. Through instruction in U.S. History and World History/Global Studies, the students in sixth through eighth grade will analyze the implications of government structures, economic policies, migratory patterns, belief systems, and the relationship between human activity and geography. As we journey through time together we will read novels, make mummies, learn how to take notes and STUDY, discuss current events, invest in stocks, delve into primary source documents, simulate trials, debate Supreme Court Cases, battle in the Greek Olympics, sail across the ocean, write technical essays, and design earth-quake safe buildings. Students will be using technology through digital resources, videos, online games, blogs, and Google Classroom throughout the course. The ultimate goal of this journey is to help students connect content knowledge to current issues and empower students to become active citizens in their communities.

a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step
