8th Grade Registration

Advanced Art

Advanced Art is for students who would like to delve deeper into advanced art concepts and skills.

This class requires completion of Art in 7th grade.

ASB

Associate Student Body/Leadership class is a yearlong class open to 7th and 8th grade students.  ASB has been designed to provide students with leadership skills and the opportunities to apply those skills in leadership roles at Chemawa Middle School.

AVID

AVID focuses on preparing students for academic success in middle school, high school and college.

Band

Chemawa offers three levels of band classes: Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced.  Band students learn to read music and play instruments.  Band students also participate in bi-yearly performances.

Bio Medical Science

Students will learn about forensic sciences, DNA research, and conduct labs.

In Health, students learn about nutrition, emotional and mental wellness.

Explore 8: Computers

The computer class is a year long class.  This class is an introduction to comptuer applications, coding and game design.

This is a one semester class.

Explore 8: Mixed Media

Students you will learn the skills to stop feeling "lost" in a museum.  We will look for the "fingerprints" artists leave behind, studying the five main tools of movies—scenery, acting, camera work, editing, and sound—and the rhythms of poetry to see how they shape our emotions. We will also explore the history of animation and anime to understand how bringing drawings to life has evolved over time.

This is a one semester class.

Explore 8: Art

Students will learn about many aspects of art, from art history to aesthetics, criticism, and art production. They will have the opportunity to create original artworks using different media, such as pencil, colored pencil, chalk pastel, oil pastel, and painting, all while learning basic design principles.

Explore 8: Media Arts

In this class, students will take the basics of Media Arts including photography and filmmaking.

Explore 8: Music Appreciation

The Music Appreciation class will cover music notes, genres and styles of music.  This is not a performance based class.

This is a one semester class.

Explore 8: Introducation to Theater

This class is the introduction to theater productions, drama, acting, stage and set design.  This is a performance based class and participation is a requirement.

This is a one semester class.

AP Spanish Language

Requires Pre AP Spanish in 7th grade.

Students in this program will receive high school credit and will take the AP test in Spring of their 8th grade year.

Spanish 1

Spanish 1 is a beginning Spanish class for students with no spanish language background.  This is a high school credit class.

Spanish Native 1

Beginning Spanish for native speakers.  This is a high school credit class.

Yearbook

In Yearbook, students create and produce our school yearbook.  Students must have good computer and writing skills.
