Homecoming is one of the most exciting events during the school season. This year, the Riverside community celebrated the 2023 homecoming crowning with a pep rally and a ceremony during the Riverside vs. Lackawanna Trail football game on October 6th.
At this pep rally, the junior varsity and varsity cheerleaders each performed a dance and the students played several games. Mr. Christopher Feerrar, who is retiring at the end of the school year, and Mrs. Renee Barucky were crowned faculty homecoming king and queen.
Following the pep rally, during half time of the night’s football game, each member of the homecoming court walked down the 50 yard line. The court included Seniors Braden Beecham, Carolyn Burke, Jack Chomko, Emily Durkin, Jacob Cottle, Alyssa Fox, Reese Gaughan, Anna Lima, Yabdiel Velazquez Figueroa, and Brianna Scott-Holt.
The 2022-2023 homecoming queen, Brielle Reed, a freshman at West Chester, crowned Alyssa Fox and Jack Chomko as the 2023-2024 homecoming queen and king.
Homecoming activities are coordinated by the Student Council, run by faculty advisor Dawn Chilek.

During the first quarter of the school year, students in Mrs. Weidow’s class opened “The Viking Café” located in the Skolastic Commons, formerly the library. Eager students lined up to check out the wide variety of snacks and drinks offered.
The Café is open to students and faculty every day during specified morning and afternoon periods. Mrs. Weidow’s students have used the Café to have both fun and acquiring new skills--like making change and interacting with customers.
The student body as a whole can also grab a quick snack throughout the day. Menu items include bags of chips, cookies, Slim Jims, water, and hot chocolate. This notable new addition has been bringing positive energy into the school while creating an upbeat atmosphere for students and staff.
