Each September, the Plant Science class trains to compete in the Southwest District Soil Judging Contest. The event is typically held at the Iowa State University Armstrong Research Farm outside of Griswold.
Atlantic, Iowa
Each October, first-year FFA members travel to Atlantic to attend the Southwest District Greenhand Fire-Up. This conference is designed to introduce new members to all of the opportunities available to them through FFA.
Indianapolis, Indiana
Seven members have the opportunity to apply for and attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana each year. We board a charter bus with three other area schools, travel to convention, go on educational tours, and attend convention session/career show.

Riverside FFA members compete at state convention in various activities including: Team Ag Sales, Leadership Events, Iowa Degrees, and the State FFA band/chorus.

Each February, members compete in various career development events. Events may include: public speaking, conduct of meetings, parliamentary procedure, job interveiw, extemperanious speaking, or agriculture broadcasting

Following sub-district convention, advancing members then compete in the district FFA convention. Two members also attend as voting delegates and selected our next officer team to lead our district.
Des Moines, Iowa
Riverside FFA members have the opportunity to exhibit livestock at the prestigious Iowa State Fair. Projects typically include swine, goats, sheep, and cattle.

Each summer, our officer team attends the Chapter Officer Leadership Training that is held in Atlantic every year. They learn about all of the duties of their office, and how to have a successful year as an officer team.

Members travel to county fairs in Southwest Iowa, developing their skills on livestock evaluation and public speaking.
