Athletics Day

What a fantastic day we had last Friday competing in our school Athletics Day. There was some outstanding sportsmanship as our tamariki challenged themselves through a range of events. We even had a new event this year, javelin! Mr Bron decided we should give it a go since we didn't have the long jump pit this year. Congratulations to Lukas, Mikaela and Tawera for being the overall winners for their age categories on the day. Also to Alyssa, Layla G, Benji R, Quinn G, Kruz and Jayden for placing in the top 3 for their age categories. Piki ake te tihi - Strive for excellence!

Picture Book Sharing with Piako Rua

Some of Mrs Kenyon's writers went and shared their picture books with Piako Rua today. The children had written their own stories and put used Canva to make them into a picture book. The books had fantastic images and were bound up like a real book.

Back in the Manawatu Standard

A group of our tamariki from Pounamu Atawhai were asked to trial a brand new House of Science kit called Mighty Microbes. We learned all about bacteria and viruses and we discovered that they're not all bad. A few reporters came around to ask us about what we were learning. Check out the article they wrote!

Tennis

We have been lucky enough to have Tennis lessons on Mondays. So far we have had two sessions, where we have been building the basic skills for serving and rallying. It has been so much fun! There is also a small group of Tennis Explorers who get to have an extra session. Such an awesome opportunity!

Newsworthy

Check out this interview in the Manawatu Standard!! It's all about the work Mrs Kenyon's doing with some of our tamariki to spread kindness within our local community. We believe this is an extremely important message because as the Kind Hearts manager Robin Tootill states "it gave children ways to manage their own feelings, to be kind to themselves as well as others, and know that a small thing could make a big difference."

Quiddage Market Day

There was a buzz of excitement in our space on Friday as children eagerly setup for their first 2021 Quiddage! Groups carefully set up spaces and layed out their products before the children and teachers from Poutama came over to shop. Each business was given a Health and Safety and Environmental Impact rating of A, B, C, or D. These had to be displayed for shoppers to see. Sales sheets were used to record all outgoing products and children even calculated any taxes or rebates they would be receiving. This week as part of our maths programme we will be counting up their overall takings. Here's hoping they match with the sales sheets!

Term 4 Science Inquiry

This term the Riverdale science inquiry is focussed around the Physical World. Our tamariki have been able to opt into learning about either rockets, electricity, simple machines or parachutes. During these sessions, our children have been learning different ways to gather and interpret data. These skills are an important part of teaching our tamariki to think like scientists.

Athletics Training!

Term 4 means Athletics Training! While we've had a slow start weather wise, it's been amazing to see everyone excited and eager to participate. High Jump is always a favourite! Check out some of these action shots.

Right Choice Day Term 3

As always we finished our Term with a reward for all the students who have been living above the line and making Right Choices. This Right Choice Day saw The Senior (Tuakana) Whānau Groups face off in a head to head, round robin, Capture The Flag Tournament.

This saw the Poutama and Pounmanu Atawhai Whānau groups battle it out to take the Crown of Capture the Flag CHAMPION! and a sneaky reward from Mr Bron as well!

Well done to Mr Carter's Whānau who beat out the competition to get the win on the day! Ka Mau te Wehi e te iwi!
