We are learning about how the earth, moon and sun interact in our solar system. Here the class is making a model of the moon's orbit around the earth so we can investigate why themoon's shape changes.

The testing phase... can they land safely?
Welcome back to school Pae Ake whanau! We are so happy to be back and ready to go once again with all our learning. We kicked off Term 2 with a mini-inquiry into ANZAC Day and what it means for us. It was really hard for some of us to understand how different life was more than 100 years ago but we studied lots of beautiful children's picture books which helped us compare then and now.
ANZAC art
As a special treat after all our learning of the history of the ANZACS in Gallipoli, we finished our week off with some ANZAC related art activities. Some of us had a go at using some new art mediums.
Preparing salt dough for making ANZAC poppy sculptures
And clay too... this was really really hard to use! Although the process was frustrating some of us still managed to create some lovely works of art.
ANZAC soldiers didn't get much variety in their food. Mostly what they ate was tinned meat, rice and biscuits made with flour and water. We used different types of scales to practise our measuring skills by measuring out quantities of rice and flour.
We discovered that there are more grains of rice in 1g than we realised!
