Do you have poi? We do! Pae Ake has been learning how to ask if you have some common items and how describe its position in te reo. We've also been practising our poi skills at the same time.
Mrs Ruawai's cooking group made delicious green pikelets today.
Creativity in Maths
Today Pae Ake akonga were set the task of rebuilding a fairy village that had been destroyed by recent bad weather. No house in the village could be the same but to avoid jealousy between the fairies every house needed to be exactly 4 rooms big. The challenge was to see which team could build the most houses.
Most Fridays the lovely Mrs Ruawai takes a lucky group of Pae Ake kids to do some cooking. Today they got to make some healthy fruit kebabs using some delicious summer fruit. These kids have certainly eaten part of their rainbow today!
Our Reading Explorers are reading a book called 'Nibbles' about a small rodent who lives in a classroom. Ms B bought in her son's pet mouse to show us. We got to see what sort of cage a rodent might live in.
Designing Waka using found items. Will they float?
Maths investigations - exploring patterns
We used a variety of classroom equipment to demonstrate what we knew about patterns. We compared our patterns to look for similarities and differences.
Pae Ake means 'Grow with Learning' and we have kicked off the year with some challenging learning opportunities already. Day 1 was about discovering each other, by learning to approach our classmates and ask them about themselves, and learning about working with new people. Mrs Ruawai created The Great Pae Ake Race which sent mixed groups out into the school following clues. At the end of the challenge, each person had contributed to their group's success and so each child was awarded their LEADERSHIP pin to put on the wall for the year. Our winning team, who had demonstrated amazing collaboration (a leadership skill) even got to move their leadership pin along! Ka pai tamariki!
