Riverdale Grade School

Art Studio

Here at Riverdale Grade School, the art studio is a space for students to explore a variety of topics and mediums. Students are encouraged to express themselves creatively in a space that emphasizes exploration, growth, and play. I aim to provide students with opportunities to inquire, experiment, and exchange ideas—all while helping them experience joy in creating.

Throughout the year, students learn how to create, respond to, and present art works in various formats. The projects that students engage with often focus on one of the following:

  • Contemporary Art/Art History: Students learn about contemporary artists as well as artists and movements throughout history. Students create works inspired by the ideas and styles of these artists.

  • Community: Students create work in response to their neighborhood, community, and/or the world that they live in.

  • Core-Connected: Students create art related to topics and concepts they are learning in core classes (Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, Math).
