What is w-sitting? W-sitting is the term used to describe when children are sitting on the floor with their knees bent, hips internally rotated with their feet positioned outside of their hips and their buttock is sitting on the floor. This leg posture resembles the shape of the letter "W".
Often children who sit in this position exhibit weakness in their core muscles and w-sitting is their way to widen their base of support for balance when sitting. This position stabilizes the pelvis and enables children to sit upright without having to work hard to hold themselves up or maintain their balance.
