Improving your muscle strength is important because you need to be strong to open doors, carry books, and perform gross motor skills among many other functional activities.
Begin by standing with your feet shoulder-width apart, feet pointing straight ahead
Brace your core and lower until your thighs are parallel to the ground by bending your hips and knees
Imagine you’re sitting back into an invisible chair.
As you “sit,” stretch your arms straight out in front of you so they come to shoulder-height
You can put a box or chair behind you that’s at or just below knee height, then lower until you just touch it with your bum to ensure you’re reaching the required depth.
Drive through the heels to stand up and complete the rep.
Repeat for 10 reps
You can perform these fun animal activities for generalized strengthening and coordination at home. What a fun way to get you heart rate going and work your muscles.
If these activities are too challenging please reach out to your child's physical therapist and they can provide you with some modifications and suggestions.
