ONLINE LEARNING POLICY
It is important that all RIS personnel who interact with students, including when online, continue to look out for signs that a student may be at risk. Any such concerns should be dealt with as per our policy. Online teaching should follow the same principles as set out in the RIS Child Safeguarding Code of Conduct & Policy.
COMMUNICATION
Be sure to use only RIS-approved communication platforms (email, Google classroom, G-Chat, SeeSaw, Zoom). LINE is not an approved communication platform for online learning.
Keep strong professional boundaries.
You know your students best. Respond and report concerns to your section-level Child Safeguarding Officers:
Elementary School – Julius Pre: juliusp@rism.ac.th
Middle School – Andrew Krauthoefer: andrewk@rism.ac.th
High School – Taylor Siedell: taylors@rism.ac.th
Child Safeguarding Lead – Priscilla Leighton: priscillal@rism.ac.th
Keep in touch with your colleagues for emotional support.
VIDEO/ONLINE SESSIONS WITH STUDENTS
Must include at least two students/or the student’s parent/guardian.
Do not record video sessions without students’ knowledge and consent.
There should be no expectation of privacy in educational exchanges (i.e., supervisors may “drop in” to a virtual room at any time).
In-person policies should be followed as closely as possible.
Teachers and students must wear suitable clothing, as should everyone else in the household.
Devices used for online learning should be used in appropriate areas—public, observable spaces (teachers or students should not be lying down in their beds during video sessions). Use a virtual background if needed.
Language must be professional and appropriate, including any household members in the background.
Only use your official class link, which is shared with and accessible by administration at any time.
WORKING 1-ON-1 WITH A STUDENT
Be aware of your own vulnerability when meeting online with only one student, and implement at least one of the following guidelines:
Inform the section-level administrator of any one-to-one sessions (email or G-Chat)
Record the session. Give students the option of a voice-only recording (Zoom recording and storage info)
Keep a log of individual sessions that is shared with administration
