Mentorship is a class period to help students connect with role models and scholars. Mentorship is designed to help facilitate healthy discussion about certain topics, help nurture the love of Islam in our children’s lives and address certain bulugh topics in the gender segregated sessions. In these sessions we hope to help students develop a stronger Islamic identity and have a platform to express their thoughts and guide them.
Moulana Jawad Wahedi
Grades 3 & 4
Sayed Jawad Wahedi started learning Quran from the age of 6. At the age of 15, he memorized the Quran and entered the Islamic seminary in Qom at 16. He studied in Hawza for over nine years. His focus was Islamic Philosophy and Mysticism, Fiqh, Osoul Fiqh, and Theology. He participated in different Quran competitions at the international level and won first place in an international Quran competition in 20014-2015.
He holds a bachelor's degree in Islamic Philosophy and Mysticism and currently studying Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
He is the resident scholar at Islamic Education Center in San Antonio, Texas, and works with Al-Kisa Foundation. His hobbies are reading books in different fields, soccer, and listening to lectures in exciting areas.
Br. Mohammad Talebi
Grades 5 to 11
Mohammad Talebi was born in Tehran. With the recommendation of Ayatollah Kashani, he and his older brother attended the private Islamic school of Mousavi in Tehran. After High School, he studied in the United Kingdom for 2.5 years, and then moved to United States. He holds a Master of Science in Physics and Mathematics.
He has been teaching at RISE Academy for the past 9 years as volunteer. He teaches math, science, and Islamic Studies.
He also works as a senior manager of data science at Western Digital.
Sr. Sabika Mithani
Grades 5 to 11
Sister Sabika Mithani was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Growing up with a passion and curiosity about Islam, she resolved to pursue Islamic Studies in Qum, Iran. Having spent more than a decade in the Hawza, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Islamic Studies from Jamatuz Zahra, followed by two Masters, one in Qurʾanic Science from Jamatuz Zahra and the other in Islamic Theology and Philosophy from Jamatul Mustafa. Sister Sabika presently resides in the Bay Area, where she does tabligh for women and serves as the head of Al-Kisa Foundation.
Sr. Marzieh Abbas
Kindergarten - Grade 2
From the bustling metropolis of Karachi, Pakistan, Marzieh Abbas is a children's book author, storyteller and baker. She loves Quran journaling, learning (especially from the kids she teaches), reading and traveling. She is a member of the SCBWI (Society for Children's Book Authors and Illustrators) and a graduate of the Children's Book Academy. She has taken courses from Storyteller Academy and The Writing Barn. She runs a kid lit review group on Facebook [Children's Book Review (CBR Global)] and blogs about her author journey and life in Pakistan. Her published books include Hamza's Pyjama Promise (Sun Behind the Cloud Publishing, 2020) , Hamza and Aliya share the Ramadan Cheer (Kisa Kids Publications, 2020) and ABCs of Pakistan (Children's Literature Festival & WHY Books, 2020).
Sr. Asma Hyder
Grades 3 & 4
Syeda Asma Hyder resides in Chicago, Illinois. She has a Masters Degree in Islamic Studies and has studied in Islamic seminary, Hawza and various religious institutes. She comes to RISE with 12 years of teaching experience. and has served as a religious scholar, educator, speaker and counselor. When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and conducting Islamic lectures and reading Islamic literature. I am excited to begin the next chapter of my teaching career at Rise Online, Inshallah!
Sr. Iman Doroudi
Grades 5 to 11
Sr. Iman Doroudi is passionate about education through creative means, and received her Master's in Arts Management from Carnegie Mellon University in 2017 in order to further her goals. In addition to teaching mentorship at RISE Online, she currently works at Noor Kids, volunteers with and writes books for Kisa Kids, and teaches theatre in an Islamic context.
Mentorship Program is established as a safe place for students to open and engage in conversation in both Islamic and not Islamic topics. Mentoring is more than just teaching, it is about learning and empowering students to make the right choices and take responsibility of actions. Students will sharpen their spiritual and critical thinking skills as many of the topics mirror RISE Online's programs and school-wide themes, the mentorship program will expand on the Roots of RISERS, we cover topics specific for gender segregated classes for students.
