Dana Mainzer
studied the Visual Arts at CSU, Long Beach where she received a BA in Art Education. She has worked for several school districts in the southern California region since 1998 teaching Art to grades K- 8th. Lived and worked in Costa Rica for four years painting and teaching. Currently, she is an Art Teacher for the Rio School District teaching grades 6th - 8th. Believes in implementing STEM adoptations to art lessons and giving all students the opportunities to learning using the 5C’s.

John Puglisi Ph.D
is superintendent of the Rio School District and also an avid maker of things arty since age 4. JP earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from West Virginia University in 1983. Making art and making art with children in order to develop their humanity and learning has been an ongoing endeavor since 1985 when he entered the world of teaching in Californian public schools.
Art and Elementary School Teacher
Join the spirit of the season with this maker workshop to create a wreath for family, friend, or self. When thinking about what to give a boss or holiday pal, nothing says I care about you like the gift you make yourself for them. In this workshop grape vine wreaths will be decorated with ribbons and materials to design a special decoration just for your purpose. Materials will be provided to fully construct your wreath. Feel free to bring along cute touches-tools for your handy person for instance, to attach, or crayons for that teacher buddy, or whatever strikes you as a way to personalize. A twelve inch grapevine wreath will be there waiting for your creativity. Before the workshop check out images of wreaths on google and Pinterest to spark the imagination. Sarah McIntosh Puglisi
is a teacher in the Hueneme School District. Teaching art and elementary school since 1983, Sarah earned her Bachelors of Fine Arts and Art Education from West Virginia University and Masters of Education in Curriculum from Chapman University.
Middle School Teacher
Join this session to learn how to introduce students to different techniques of using watercolors. We will explore painting methods including wet on dry, wet on wet, and salt! Watercolors are a great medium to use in all grades and for many different projects! All materials will be provided in the workshop and you’ll be able to take home your work!
Jennifer O’Toole
Prior to joining the Rio School District, Jennifer taught art for seven years for kindergarten through eighth grade. She is currently teaching 6th grade language arts and social studies at Rio del Valle Middle School, and integrates art projects and creativity into her lessons as often as possible.
1st Grade Teacher
This project was inspired by my trip to Oaxaca, Mexico. I wanted to give my students a feel of the folk art from their homeland. This session will focus on tips and techniques for successful paper maché projects. During this session you will see the steps necessary to make paper maché projects that last. We will start with ideas on building the underlying structure and then move on to the multiple layers of paper. I will show you my technique of alternating materials to ensure full coverage on all layers. I will give you ideas on how to incorporate projects into all academic areas.
Sandra VonCannon-Legaspi
Is a first grade teacher for the Rio School District at Rio Plaza School. She earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts from California State University Northridge in 1994. She started teaching her teaching career for LAUSD in 1996. Sandra enjoys teaching, traveling and making art. She found a way to combine all three loves after a school district sponsored trip to Oaxaca, Mexico.

is an artist and illustrator. She earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts with a minor in Illustration from California State University Northridge and is currently completing a single subject credential for Visual Art and a Masters degree in Education. Jeanine enjoys working with many different art mediums. Jeanine enjoys life drawing, painting, and gardening.
