An Interactive Booth is where hands-on creativity, fun, and STEAM principles come together! In this category, an adult supervisor works with a group of students to design and host an engaging activity or challenge for event attendees to play, experiment, and interact with during the expo.
This category is for student groups who want to lead interactive experiences that inspire and engage others through hands-on learning. We are looking for activities that actively involve participants rather than just displaying information.
Your booth should focus on creating a welcoming, interactive space where visitors can build, test, play, or create while learning about a core STEAM concept. Clear instructions, accessible materials, and enthusiasm from your student facilitators are key!
Here are a few ideas for interactive activities that fit well in this category:
Math & Strategy Games: Set up interactive math puzzles, logic games, or probability challenges where participants can play and test their skills.
Hands-On Science Experiments: Guide visitors through quick, fascinating chemical reactions or physics demonstrations, such as making slime or launching film-canister rockets.
Engineering Challenges: Design a hands-on building station where attendees build and test catapults, balloon-powered cars, or paper towers.
STEAM-Inspired Art: Host a creative workstation where visitors produce art using scientific or mathematical concepts, such as spin art, marbled paper using density principles, or geometric tessellations.
Nature-Based Crafts: Lead attendees in crafting with natural materials, such as making seed bombs, creating leaf rubbings to explore plant biology, or weaving with natural fibers.
1. The Interactive Station: The actual setup, materials, and step-by-step activity that visitors will participate in during the event.
2. A Booth Display: A tabletop sign, poster, or banner detailing your activity. You should include:
Group Name & Grade Level: Introduce your student host team and adult supervisor.
Activity Title: Give your interactive booth a catchy, engaging name.
The STEAM Concept: What science, math, engineering, or art principle is being demonstrated?
How to Participate: Clear, easy-to-follow instructions or steps for participants.
The Science/Math Behind It: A short explanation of how or why the activity works so facilitators can explain it to guests.
Keep It Fast & Engaging: Choose activities that participants can complete in 3 to 10 minutes so everyone gets a turn.
Prepare Enough Materials: Plan ahead for high foot traffic and ensure you have plenty of supplies stocked for the duration of the event.
Let Students Lead: While an adult must supervise the booth, encourage student facilitators to take the lead in explaining rules, handing out materials, and guiding participants.
Focus on Safety & Mess Management: Make sure your activity is safe for all ages and bring table covers, wipes, or bin containers to keep your area clean.
