Freshman Focus (Friendly Outreach for a Community of Understanding and Success) was designed to assist ninth graders as they enter Ridgewood High School. This program provides the opportunity for students to address the issues of personal development that all adolescents face through these important four years. The goal of Freshman FOCUS is to provide a solid foundation and immediate sense of community that strives to enhance the academic and personal success of each student. Meeting once in each 4-day rotation, Peer Counselors meet with their freshman class. Our Peer Counselors have been carefully selected and trained to help supervise and guide the freshman through their introductory year. These Peer Counselors are the key element to this program. Their work is complemented by Andrea Watson, Mr. Bailey, Mr. Nyhuis, and other staff who meet with the freshman classes. We cover a wide range of topics like changing friendships, study skills, stress management, conflict resolution, and a bunch of things in between.Â
