5 Tips for Student Success
Bring their book every day. It's really hard to study and do assignments if a student doesn't have a book in class.
Study the week's vocabulary list at least 15 minutes every night. Studying in class is good, but studying at home will really help students remember their vocabulary words. Studying can include self-quizzing, writing the words down, copying the words, making flashcards, using online flashcards and having others quiz them.
Have a dedicated Spanish notebook. Students who have a dedicated Spanish spiral notebook where they can copy the vocabulary lists and write down notes that we take in class will not have to search for those notes later when they are trying to do their homework or other activities.
Complete and turn in all homework and classwork assignments. Homework and in-class work make up 35% of a student's grade. That is 3 times more than their final exam. Make sure your student is staying on top of their homework and turning in all of their assignments.
Have fun and don't be afraid to make mistakes. Spanish is all about practice. The more students practice, the more they will learn. Many students are afraid to speak inside and outside of class for fear of making mistakes. If these fears can be overcome, then their practice will lead to greater understanding.
