Welcome to middle school! The transition to 6th grade is a milestone filled with fresh opportunities, new friendships, greater independence, and exciting challenges. Whether you are feeling eager, a little nervous, or a mix of both, please know that you are not walking this path alone—our entire Scotts Ridge community is here to support you every step of the way.
Moving to middle school means navigating new routines: managing lockers, switching classes, meeting different teachers, and discovering new interests. It is completely normal to have questions or feel unsure at first!
Here are a few things to keep in mind as you start this year:
Give Yourself Grace: Nobody expects you to have everything figured out on day one. Mistakes are just opportunities to learn.
Try New Things: Middle school is a wonderful time to explore new clubs, sports, or hobbies you’ve never tried before.
Ask for Help: If you ever feel lost, overwhelmed, or just need someone to talk to, my door is always open.
Middle school marks a period of rapid cognitive, emotional, and social growth for your child. As they begin to build greater autonomy, family partnership remains critical to their success.
As your child's school counselor, my primary role is to advocate for your student and partner with you to ensure they feel safe, supported, and confident at school.
I am here to support your child and family through:
Academic Support: Time management, organizational strategies, and study habits.
Social-Emotional Learning: Navigating peer relationships, stress management, and emotional regulation.
Direct Counseling & Mediation: Brief individual check-ins, small-group counseling, and restorative conflict resolution.
Family Liaison: Connecting families with school and community resources.
Communication between home and school is key to a smooth transition. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions, updates, or concerns regarding your student throughout the school year.
