Is my child eligible for transportation?
School bus transportation shall be provided for all handicapped children and for qualified children living in excess of the following walking distances* from their neighborhood schools:
Elementary School – 3/4 mile
Middle School – 1 mile
High School – 1.5 mile
* Walking Distance - the linear measure of a prescribed or authorized pedestrian route between the pupil’s residence and his/her school from a point at the curb or edge of a public road or highway nearest the pupil’s residence to a designated point or points at each school site. “One mile walking distance” means a reasonable measurement of a route to be traversed extending from the point of measurement at least 5,280 feet.
If you have moved to a different school zone and would like your student to remain within the original zone, written permission is required and must be sent to the superintendent, otherwise transportation is not provided.

How do I submit a request to allow my child to cross the street during pick-up and drop-off?
Please complete the permission form, and submit it to the Transportation Department, Ridgefield Public Schools Central Office, 90 East Ridge Road, Ridgefield, CT 06877.

Please communicate all questions or concerns regarding transportation using the transportation inquiries form. This form will create a ticket for our staff and ensure your request is responded to. Please do not send email inquiries as they may not aide in a timely response.
