Letter - March/April 2020

Dear Families,

We hope that you are doing well. This is a very difficult and uncertain time in our lives. We want you to know that we miss our students very much, and we are working hard to make sure they can continue to learn at home as we embark on this new journey called “Distance Learning.”

As teachers, we have been asked to do a number of things to ensure students can have authentic learning with the least amount of stress or anxiety involved. All students in 5th grade will receive their assignments via a new Google Classroom titled “Fifth Grade.” This email will include instructions for logging on to the Google Suite as well as opening up Google Classroom from home.

(Please note: Until further notice, our regular Google Classrooms will not be used.)

Distance Learning Expectations:

  • “Do the best you can with what you have.”---We understand that everyone has different circumstances at home. Do your best to use the materials provided to help you learn at home. If you become overwhelmed...take a break and come back to it!
  • “We are all in this together.”---We are here for you and will do our best to help you continue to learn and be prepared to enter 6th grade next year! Contact your teacher(s) at any time for additional help or guidance!

Logging on to the Google Suite as well as Google Classroom:

  • Use this link for instructions on accessing Google Classroom & Parents’ Guide to Google!
  • Your child will log into their account using their standard login and password that they have used at school to log into the Chromebooks. They would simply need to add "@richlandrams.net" to their username. If your child would need their login information, please feel free to get in contact with me
  • Your child has already been added to the Google Classroom titled, “Fifth Grade” through an email invitation. So once you make it to that screen, he/she should be good to go!

Assignments:

  • Assignments will be posted by Monday morning at 8:00AM for the entire week.
  • Please click the “CLASSWORK” tab at the top of the Google Classroom page to see each week’s assignments organized by subject.
  • Your child can then complete the weekly assignments at his or her own pace.
  • However, all assignments that require something to be turned in via Google Classroom should be completed by the end of the day (9:00PM) on Friday of that given week.

Grades:

  • At this time, there will be no grades in PowerSchool for Quarter 4, but we will track assignments for completion.

Ways to Communicate:

I also wanted to share with you all some scheduled "office hours" that I will be available. I will be holding office hours Monday-Friday from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm. During these times, I will be available to answer any emails or Class Dojo messages. If you are not available during these times, please still feel free to get in contact with me as I will be sure to still reply to emails during those time periods or whenever I am available to. If you prefer messaging on Class Dojo as well, I will be available on there.

We look forward to interacting with your child again! We will strive to do our best to ensure your child has a meaningful “distance learning experience” all the while having some fun at home!

Take care & stay strong & healthy.

Sincerely,

Miss Holtzer
