Q: What is a magnet program?
A: A magnet program focuses on a particular theme and instructional strategies used reflect that theme. Our magnet program is considered to be a school within a school. Our students focus on our theme and preparation for high school and beyond while also being part of the Dent Middle School Community.
Q: How will the magnet benefit my child?
A: This magnet program will benefit your child by providing a rigorous curriculum, filled with hands-on learning activities. Learning in a single-gender environment will reduce the pressures of the middle school years, as well as provide a rich educational opportunity while defining the unique genius of your child.
Q: What activities/athletics do you offer?
A: Each year, our students are provided the opportunity to participate in various field studies throughout the year, for example, Camp Tekoa, Disney, and Washington, D.C., as well as other day field trips. Dent Middle School offers a variety of co-curricular courses (FAME) that students may participate in, such as Chorus, Band, Orchestra, Graphic Art and Design, Foreign Languages, and World Drumming, just to name a few. Students are also welcome to participate in Dent Middle School athletics, such as football, basketball, cheerleading, soccer, and volleyball as 7th and 8th-grade students. Students can also participate in after-school clubs or help to create a club.
Q: Is transportation available?
A: Students who are zoned to attend Dent Middle School may ride the school bus or parents/guardians may bring them to school. Parents/guardians of students who are not zoned to attend Dent Middle School must be able to provide transportation to and from school each day.
