7th Grade

7th Grade Course Overview:

Mathematics:  Honors - advanced algebraic thinking and problem-solving while applying those skills across multiple areas of math. Students study the number system, expressions and equations, functions, geometry, statistics, and probability, with additional enrichment activities. The course emphasizes higher-order thinking, mathematical reasoning, and choosing effective strategies to solve problems. 

Geometry - Students investigate geometric concepts through exploration, reasoning, and problem solving while studying topics such as congruence, similarity, transformations, circles, and three-dimensional figures. Technology and multiple approaches to geometry help students make connections across mathematics and other disciplines. This is a weighted honors-level high school course. 

Social Studies: Understanding the world and the connections between people, places, and regions. Students learn to read and analyze maps, gather evidence, and communicate findings while comparing developments across the seven continents. Key themes include places and regions, environment and resources, human systems, and applied geography. 

English Language Arts: Strengthening reading, writing, speaking, and critical-thinking skills through rigorous, standards-based instruction. Students explore fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, and informational texts from diverse cultures and time periods. They also develop their communication skills by writing narratives, arguments, and informational pieces while building academic vocabulary and strengthening grammar and conventions. 

Science: Focuses on inquiry, real-world science, and problem-solving through engaging and challenging learning experiences. Students build on their prior knowledge as they investigate scientific concepts, think critically, and tackle real-world challenges, with an emphasis on developing curiosity and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
