Application Process is open for 2024-25 School Year
Students must apply, interview and be accepted into the AVID program. Once your application is submitted, you will be notified of your interview date and time for the AVID program. Please remember that if you are applying Teacher Recommendations will also be obtained. Please refer back to the Application Process on website for further details.
The deadline to apply for the program is Friday, March 15, 2024 at 11:59 PM.
**If Westwood High School is not your zoned school you must also apply for school choice. Your acceptance into the AVID program only will not permit you to enroll at Westwood.**
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a rigorous academic elective course that prepares motivated students in the academic middle, to reach their potential, achieve their goals and prepare for 4-year college eligibility. AVID is not a remedial program since it requires all students to be enrolled in college preparatory courses starting their freshman year and to have taken at least one honors, advanced placement, or dual-credit course by graduation.
AVID students will:
receive instruction utilizing a rigorous college preparatory curriculum provided by AVID, engage in tutor facilitated study groups, motivational activities, college trips and academic success skills;
participate in activities that incorporate strategies focused on writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading to support their academic growth.
take the year long elective class each year.
Take at least one honors course each year and complete at least one AP course by the end of their senior year.
Serve 30 hours or more of community service annually.
