1) Power the device off.
2) Use a paperclip to flip the developer switch into developer mode. The developer switch is under a plastic cover on the right side of the device, toward the back. Open the flap to reveal a small black switch. Move the switch to the rear position to enter developer mode.
3) Power the device on. The screen should indicate that developer mode has been disabled by the owner.
4) Power the device off. You may have to hold the power button down for ten seconds.
5) Use a paperclip to move the developer switch to the front position to exit developer mode and close the cover.
After wiping or recovering a Chromebook, you are presented with the first time setup screen, or Out Of Box Experience (OOBE).
1) Start the device after a wipe or recovery to begin the OOBE.
2) Select the wireless network rsd2-open from the drop-down list. Wait for the wireless symbol to stop pulsing, indicating that it has connected successfully.
3) Click the same drop-down list again, and choose ‘Proxy settings’.
4) On the proxy settings screen, select the radio button next to ‘Automatic proxy configuration’ and click the X on the upper right to close the screen.
5) Continue to the next screen for the license agreement, and click ‘Accept and continue’. The device may attempt to download updates at this point. If it does, you’ll have to wait for it to finish.
THE NEXT STEP IS CRITICAL!!!! PLEASE PAY CLOSE ATTENTION!!!!
6) The ‘Enterprise Enrollment’ screen is displayed. Enter your richland2.org email address and password to start enrollment. Any user can do this, and it doesn’t matter who does it.
If the enrollment screen is not displayed at this point, it means that the device either wasn’t properly enrolled previously or hasn’t been updated in quite some time. If that is the case, first make sure that you update it to a current release. Then to launch enrollment, at the login screen - before you login for the first time - press CTRL+ALT+E to manually begin enrollment. This should only be required once, as long as your device is up to date.
7) Once enrollment begins, the device downloads our configuration policy, which causes it to disconnect and reconnect to wifi network rsd2-secure. Due to a glitch in the process, it may prompt you to re-enter your password to finish enrollment. If it does, re-enter your password as prompted. If not, continue on.
8) Ideally at this point, it’s all done and you should see a regular login prompt, however due to another glitch, it may say that you don’t have an Internet connection, even though you do. If so, reboot and that should resolve it.
