A School Social Worker is a licensed specialized social worker who works for a school district and works closely with school staff to provide intervention services. Their role is to connect the school, home and community by acting as a liaison to remove barriers that often impede a student’s success. These types of barriers can include homelessness, poverty, hunger, transportation, lack of affordable housing, mental health, and lack of medical coverage. A school social worker is a added support for a family going though a difficult time and needing help. They are a intervention for a school trying to help a student succeed and knowing that a family might not have all of the resources to do so.
