Art III (Drawing)

Drawing (Art III) is an advanced studio course open to students in grades 10-12 that have successfully completed Art I and Art II.

The South Carolina Visual and Performing Arts Curriculum Standards serve as the goals for this course. Projects and assignments will focus on the expressive qualities of drawing in the context of specific topics – the elements of art, media, and subject matter - to help the student continue the development of skills in specific processes of drawing. Composition, art styles and historical and contemporary artists are studied to expand the student’s awareness to include other areas of learning and experience. Emphasis will be on personal exploration of ideas, materials concepts and solutions to design problems. The student will recognize, identify and develop their individual style of drawing.

Critical thinking and problem solving skills are developed using critiques and evaluations in written and oral form. Assessment will be a final portfolio presentation that must include both examples of assigned projects and written work including a research paper on an approved artist or method.
