This course is designed to introduce students to both traditional black and white film-based photography and digital photography/ software basics in accordance to the goals and objectives outlined in the SC Visual Arts Standards. Students will explore photography as an art form with experiences and activities dealing with the function and use of both the 35 mm SLR camera and digital cameras, the history and aesthetics of photography, black and white darkroom processes and digital enhancement.
The nature of this course requires students to work independently on a number of ongoing assignments (film and digital shoots, darkroom processing, and written assignments). In addition, it is expected that students complete photo shoots outside of classroom time (afternoons and weekends). Therefore, photo students need to manage their time wisely as well as be self-motivated, mature and responsible.
