I am entering my 17th year as an educator, with eight of those years in the Valley.
Here's a little about me: My hometown is Johnsonville, SC where I grew up in a small community called Bluefield. I eventually attended Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA where I earned a BA in English Literature-Creative Writing. Before entering the teaching profession, I worked as a journalist at the Marion Star and Mullins Enterprise for three years. Afterwards, I began my teaching career in Myrtle Beach at Carolina Forest High School. After three years there, I went back to school for an MFA in Creative Writing with a focus in poetry at the University of South Carolina. While at USC, I taught English 101 and English 102. I then taught at Coastal Carolina University for one year, and eventually made my way to Spring Valley High School. I went back to USC for a Master of Library and Information Science and became the librarian at Muller Road Middle School August 2024.
Over the course of my teaching career I have taught the following:
College Courses:
English 101
English 102
English 201
High School Courses:
English 1, 2, 3 & 4
Journalism I

On a personal note, I am married with a son who was born during the pandemic and a 14-year old bonus daughter. My hobbies include spending time with family, watching movies (any Marvel fans?), writing poetry and nonfiction, cooking, and gardening. To read some of my work, visit my website. (Please note that I am also Jennifer Bartell! I will continue to publish my literary work under my maiden name.)
I am looking forward to learning more about you and having a great year of reading and writing with you! Developing the ability to comprehend and interpret information is essential in the society we live in today.
