Our Horizon Magnet Program, along with our Convergence Media and Palmetto Center for the Arts (PCA) programs, have met Magnet Schools of America’s criteria to become Nationally Certified-Demonstration. Magnet Schools of America (MSA), the national association of magnet and theme-based schools, created this national certification process to recognize the most exemplary magnet schools in the nation. MSA helps these magnets as they continue to grow and provide high-quality instructional programs that promote choice, equity, diversity, and academic excellence.

Horizon's Pillars
Global Awareness is the theme of our house and our four pillars are the beams that hold it up-what keep everything strong and connected. Our pillars help build a learning community that’s thoughtful, inclusive, ready to make a difference in the world.
Pillar 1. Cultural Competence=Cultural Awareness: Students will understand different cultures and how to use that knowledge in their daily life.
Pillar 2. Global Sustainability=Solving World Problems: Students will learn about big issues facing our world and learn about companies/organizations that work on projects to find real solutions.
Pillar 3. Interdisciplinary Learning=Community and World Connection: Students will be ready to connect with our community and the world through exciting service opportunities and field studies.
Pillar 4. Community and Global Engagement=Connecting the Dots: Students will connect what you're learning in one class to another, all while exploring topics that matter globally.
Together, these pillars support the rigorous academic environment of the Horizon Magnet Program, preparing students to lead with knowledge, integrity, and a commitment to positive change.
Who Are We?
The Horizon magnet program is a rigorous, four-year course of study for academically talented students, designed to ensure their success during and after high school. The interdisciplinary program with a Global Awareness focus features a collaborative approach to instruction, including field studies and other learning opportunities. A maximum of 44 freshmen are admitted to the program each year.
Through preparatory coursework, Horizon students are expected to enter the Horizon/AP Capstone Program in grade 11. During their junior and senior years, Horizon students will complete at least 5-7 AP courses, including AP Seminar and AP Research. Both courses are required for students to earn a Horizon Magnet Medallion and to be recognized as a Horizon/Capstone Graduate at graduation. These students will also be eligible for the AP Capstone Diploma or Certificate.
Throughout their time in the program, Horizon students will have the opportunity to attend field studies that enhance students’ learning experience, and focus on cultivating a global perspective.
Horizon students must complete 20 hours of community service and attend 4 cultural before completion of the program.
