The Horizon magnet program is a rigorous learning community for motivated and academically talented students. Horizon promotes collaborative learning and leadership, and builds a global perspective within a holistic curriculum.
Horizon students are driven by our commitment to global awareness and the necessity to make a difference in both the local community and the global stage. Our Horizon Magnet freshmen scholars visited The GROW Farm and Harvest Hope Food Bank earlier this week as part of their Mini Capstone Project on food insecurity.
At The GROW Farm, students explored sustainable growing practices and how local food systems can help address access to fresh, healthy food. Their visit to Harvest Hope gave them an opportunity to learn more about food insecurity in our community, while also lending a helping hand through service.
This field study is an important part of our students’ college-level research and writing as they investigate the question: How can we improve access to healthy, sustainable food in Northeast Columbia?
