Character Education is very important at BMS. We take a T.E.A.M. approach to help students develop the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens and core principles needed for success in a free society. In other words, we Teach good character, Enforce the rules that support appropriate behavior, Advocate the ethical values that support positive character, and Model the character traits we hope to see in our students. Our goal is to encourage all BMS students to become self-disciplined, self-reliant and self-confident so they will be able to handle every challenge that comes their way.
Programs:
Character Awards Breakfast - Teachers have the opportunity to nominate a student by teams for our monthly Character Awards Breakfast. Students are honored for consistently demonstrating good character and positive life skills. BMS has been recognized by the National Character Education Partnership for its outstanding character education program. The Character Awards Breakfast is just one of the many ways Blythewood Middle promotes good citizenship.
Character Bucks - For the students who demonstrate above and beyond character and life skills, teachers have the opportunity to award students with character bucks. A weekly reward is given to students who have earned the most ‘bucks” from their teachers.
Spotlight Students of the Week - At BMS, students have the opportunity to nominate their peers for the Spotlight Student of the Week recognition. One student from each grade level will be recognized on the News Show each week for their exemplary character they show towards their peers!
