The purpose of Career Development is to help prepare your student for high school and to meet or exceed the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. It is our mission to assist our students in establishing their pathway to be college or career ready.
Career Development in the Middle School years will involve activities and lessons introducing students to the 16 Career Clusters and conducting career exploratory assessments and self-discovery activities through the South Carolina Career Information System website.
As students reach the 8th grade, our mission is to help them get ready for the transition to high school. The South Carolina Department of Education requires that ALL 8th grade students are to create an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) with assistance from the school counseling personnel. Another component to consider are the District's Career & Technology Education programs offered at the high schools, click on the link to explore these amazing programs: R2CTE Programs
An Individual Graduation Plan outlines the courses necessary for the student to successfully prepare for graduation and transition into a profession or post-secondary educational experience. In addition to general graduation requirements and coursework, IGPs include out-of-classroom learning opportunities related to a student's chosen cluster of study. Students will update their IGPs annually, giving them the flexibility to change their cluster of study should their interest change. To learn about classes offered at each high school feel free to explore the high school's web site and curriculum guide/course registration guide for more information.
